Scarlett O’Hara Staircase Modernization

A Scarlett O’Hara staircase is a staircase that is open on both sides, typically with an hourglass shape. The two staircases in this house were built circa 1990 and were in need of some modernization. New square spindles and massive oak posts were retrofitted. The railings required some modification to fit the new posts, which turned out great. A total of 197 spindles were replaced, along with 10 posts. The upper level parquet floors were sanded and stained along with both staircases and railings, to match. Jacobean stain was used with a satin oil based polyurethane.
